A family man, Gennady ModestovichMikhasevich murdered, as near as they can figure, 55 women. He began killing
after his girlfriend married someone else. For a while, he even worked with the
police – learning how to avoid capture in the process.
His handwriting brought
him down. His choice of weapon was whatever was at hand. A married man and
father of two he often took the possessions of his victim's home as gifts.
He confessed and was executed in
1987, but 14 other people had already been convicted for some of his crimes and
several were executed for crimes they did not commit.
